What is PostsovkhoZ?
PostsovkhoZ started as open forum to question the social, cultural
and economic issues facing rural life in post-soviet Estonia. PostsovkhoZ
has developed into a multi-purpose, cross-discipline event for creative
interventions in a context-specific location. PostsovkhoZ encourages
both the exchange of ideas and the realization of short term artistic
projects within a 10 day event. PostsovkhoZ is hosted by MoKS, an NGO
cultural organization dedicated to local and international cooperation
in the fields of arts, social and environmental research in Mooste,
Estonia (pop. 520 people, 48km SE of Tartu).
This years theme...

private interests >>
In recent years the questions, debates and struggles over public and
private have grown considerably, both in depth and the contexts in
which they apply. Nearly every aspect of contemporary society (even
within a global perspective) has been affected by a strong line dividing
the spheres of public and private. We are continually confronted with
the rights, discriminations and privileges of both of what is defined
as the public and private sectors. Some of the changes between public
and private are done with our knowledge or consent yet more and more
decisions are being done without. So why is the division of public
and private becoming stronger and in what ways do we ourselves begin
to distinguish the difference between the two? In this case, the notion
of choice is something new as many things once openly accepted as public
have now come under private control or things once in the shadow of
private realms have now become accessible by the general public. As
this line has historically shifted back and fourth in different ways,
in different places, is it any different now? Or are we confronting
a unique condition beyond the local and national states, as we are
increasingly subject to tides of change on a global scale.
As artists and creative citizens, the division of public and private
raises many issues regarding our survival, our role and the purpose
of our work. As organizations and institutions how do we deal with
finding support through private donation versus public funding. Our
very opportunities are often based on these fundamental choices, whether
we focus on public interest or private enterprise, public responsibility
or market oriented success. To what degree do we compromise and adapt
our principles and ethical values or conceptual and aesthetic ideas
based on the demands of the public and private sectors and how often
are these boundaries unclear and even deceptive in their nature? Much
of these factors affect what we do but at what point do we discuss
them in the continual process of our work?
Although, broad and diverse in scope, we will attempt to bring the
issues surround public and private to the size and time scale of PostsovkhoZ
5. We encourage stories and models from personal and collective histories
to be shared and explored, as well as projects and possible outcomes
of these experiences to be realized.
What to expect...
The 10 day event, taking experiences from previous PostsovkhoZ events,
attempts to instigate cooperative activities within local community
and between a temporary international artistic community. This artistic
community has always encouraged cooperation of Estonian artists and
artists from abroad. Involvement will become real through the planned
places of activities (village “central” square, farm buildings,
open spaces) and projects (joint workshops with children or village
theatre). PostsovkhoZ challenges exclusionary culture through inclusive
participation and challenges the role of the artist and their means
and methods of creative expression.
Within the event we hold a one-day seminar and
open discussion forum,
a group excursion through southeast Estonia, a week-long work and exchange
period as well as a final public exhibition and performance event.
Viiendat aastat
leiab Moostes, Põlvamaal aset rahvusvaheline kunstifestival
POSTSOVKHOZ. Sel aastal on ürituse satelliittoimumiskohad veel
Rasinal ja Tartus Y-galeriis.
Ü
rituse idee on algusest peale lähtunud konkreetsest paigast (Mooste)
ning kuidas üldised muutused ühiskonnas kajastuvad selle
paiga füüsilises ja sotsiaalses ruumis. Keeruline nimi PostsovkhoZ
koosneb sõnadest POST (pärast) ja SOVHOOS- maakeeli siis
peale sovhoosi.
PostsovkhoZi eesmärgiks on ärgitada koostööd kohaliku
kogukonna ja rahvusvahelise kunstnikkonna vahel. See realiseerub kunstiprojektides
küla avalikes ja peidetud ruumides ning kunstnike ja külaelanike
koostööprojektides.
Mooste KülalisStuudio (MoKS) korraldatavad PostsovkhoZ nime kandvad
mõtte- ja keskkonnakunsti talgud tegelevad juba viiendat aastat üleminekuühiskonna
eripära ja probleemidega. Kohtumispaik on viis aastat olnud sama – Mooste
alevik Põlva maakonnas. Selle aja jooksul on ühes kohas
toimuvad ja nähaolevad protsessid andnud ainest erinevateks teemadeks:
PostsovkhoZ Person & PostsovkhoZ City, Strata, Territooriumid,
Isolatsioon.
Viienda PostsovkhoZi põhiteema on Avalik- Era, mille teemadering
käsitleb avaliku ja erasfääri muutumist postsotsialistlikus ühiskonnas
ja sellest tulenevaid probleeme ja võimalusi. Märksõnadeks
on: ühiskond, raha, võim, maa, seadus, omand, erastamine, ühishuvi,
kollektiiv, individualism, avalik ja eraelu, ruum, informatsioon, seadus,
ligipääs, rahastamine, võrgustikud, institutsioonid,
tervishoid, haridus, debatid, vabavara, erahuvid, protokollid,...
MIS TOIMUB POSTSOVKHOZIL? PostsovkhoZ on intensiivne kümnepäevane
loominguline labor, kuhu sõidab kokku üle 30 kunstniku
14 maalt (Eestist, Kanadast, Jaapanist, Valgevenest, Lätist, Leedust,
Poolast, Soomest, Ameerikast, Sloveeniast, Makedooniast, Austriast,
Inglismaalt, Itaaliast). Töönädalal teostavad kohalesõitnud
paiga ja ürituse teema spetsiifikast (avalik- era) lähtuvaid
valdkondadevahelisi kunstiprojekte, kus näiteks joonistuste abil
kogutakse kohalikku folkloori, seatakse üles uudishimul toimivaid
heli-installatsioone, pannakse püsti üks kummaline kauplus,
tehakse indiaanisauna ja jäetakse sajal muul moel jälgi külaruumi.
Töönädalal valminut peaks saama näha laupäeval
13. augustil ja pühapäeval 14. augustil mitmekesise näitus-
ja tegevuskunsti programmi näol.
Lisaks töönädalale leiab POSTSOVKHOZil aset veel teemakohane
seminar, õhtused diskussioonifoorumid kunstnike-korraldajate
ja kunstikriitikute esinemistega, osalejate presentatisoonid, seinamaali
ja kodulehe tegemise õpitoad, filmiõhtu, lipunäitus
ja osalejate ekskursioon Lõuna Eestisse. |
