worked intensively during PostsovkhoZ with the youth, assistants
and local community of Mooste to design and paint
a mural on one of the block houses. Maps were drawn of small spaces
in front of the house where insects, animals and people moved. These
movements were documented and translated into diagramatic forms by
a team of children. Marisa then took the composite diagram and rendered
it for the template of the mural. Then, with a dedicated team, the
mural was carefully painted onto the surface of the building. The mural
is an achievement for public art in the village. Marisa received
a great ammount of assistance from Mari Jõgiste, Kaie Luik,
Doris Allese, and the children of Mooste. |

MARISA
JAHN (USA)
http://www.marisajahn.com/
San Fransiscost tuleb Moostesse kunstnik, õpetaja, kirjanik ja organisaator
Marisa Jahn. Eestisse toob Marisa endaga kaasa näituse “Unfurled”,
millele on aktiivselt kaasöid teinud kunstnikud Ameerika Ühendriikidest
ja mitmelt poolt Euroopast. “Unfurled” on näitus lippudest,
see on omamoodi alternatiiv ja kriitiline reageering viimasel ajal pead
tõstvatele natsionalismiilmingutele ja fanatismile. Viimati oli “Unfurled” avalikkusele
kaeda 2004. aastal San Fransiscos “Pond”i galeriipinnal. Näituse
esimene Euroopa etteaste leiab aset PostsovkhoZi satelliitnäitusepinnal
Y-galeriis Tartus. Lisaks sellele viib Marisa Moostes läbi seinamaali
tegemise õpitoa noortele koos eesti kunstniku Kaie Luigega. Marisa
on sarnaseid seinamaali töötubasid, kus noored kajastavad endi
suhteid ümbritsevaga läbi viinud varem Degirmendere´sTürgis
(1999) ja San Fransiscos (2004).
2001. aastal asutas ta koos Steve Shadaga San Fransisco´s organisatsiooni
Pond, mis on kunstiaktivistide rohujuureorganisatsioon, pühendunud
esperimentaalse kunsti tegemisele ja näitamisele. Pondi eesmärk
on luua mittevõistluslik foorum, et julgustada dialoogi kunstnike
ja laiema kogukonna vahel kõigile juurdepääasetavas aga
samas intiimses keskkonnas.
Marisa Jahni reis Eestisse sai võimalikuks tänu CEC ArtsLink
programmile
From San Fransisco comes to Mooste artist, educator, creative writer and
organiser Marisa Jahn. With herself she will bring and exhibition of flags “Unfurled” Unfurled
is an public exhibition of flags that presents critical responses and alternatives
to the recent rise in nationalism and its fanaticism. Formerly exhibited
in 2004 at Pond’s gallery space in San Francisco, Unfurled
makes a European appearance at PostsovkhoZ satellite exhibition site at
Galerii Y at the University of Tartu in Estonia. In its second incarnation,
the exhibition will present selections from the first exhibition alongside
additional works by international artists. The exhibition includes flags
mounted on the exterior of Galerii Y with additional interpretations of
flags inside the gallery space. Besides “Unfurled” Marisa
will conduct also the workshop of mural for local youth together with Estonian
teacher and artist Kaie Luik. She has done similar kind of community mural
projects, where youth are reflecting their relation to surrounding at Degirmendere
(Turkey 1999) and San Fransisco (2004).
In 2001 she co-founded with Steve Shada an organisation called Pond. Pond
is a 501(3)c nonprofit grassroots art-activist organization dedicated to
showcasing experimental art. Our mission is to create a non-competitive
forum that fosters dialogue between artists and the greater community in
an accessible and intimate environment.
Marisa Jahn´s trip to Estonia has been made possible thanks to CEC
