![]() Pekko KäppiPekko Käppi has quickly become a cult figure on the Finnish music scene. He knows how to charm the public with nothing but a jouhikko, a traditional Finnish violin made out of horsehair, and his characteristic voice. His debut album Jos ken pahoin uneksii, which was released in 2007, showcases his affinity with free folk and psychedelic tunes. Pekko Käppi is a virtuose of Jouhikko - the ancient Finnish-Karelian bowed lyre. He has been involved in projects such as Jouhiorkesteri, Kiila, Lau Nau, Vilddas, Päivänsäde and Äijä. His music has often been described in a kind of underground romantic metaphors: "In his hands the rough sound of weaved horsehair strings are swaying between the foul and lovely - dirty and pure. The old songs of unwritten tradition, timeless and dark stories mediates in his mouth." He got involved with the Jouhikko in 1997 in the Ala-Könni Institute of Kaustinen. Ever since Pekko Käppi has been studying the Jouhikko tradition with the master players of Finland, Estonia and Sweden. He has been performing with different Jouhikkos in diverse ensembles, theatre productions etc. around the globe. Changed lines 40-41 from:

Kirtana Rasa performs their own creations, most of the texts for the songs come from the feather of Mathura (Margus Lattik). Even if they would like to, they cant frame their music stylistically. Their repertoir ranges from meditative Indian ragas until simple pop-songs. Between thre are all kind of experiments with shamanistic and other rhythms and exotic instruments. Also songtexts (songlines) themes vary from nature blessing anthems until small things of everyday life. Besides music Kirtana Rasa performances also involve pleasure for eyes- this is taken care by visual artist Okeiko http://okeiko.planet.ee/ Kirtana Rasa has released CD „Põhjataeva tuled” (Ulmeplaadid, 2007). ![]() Two Who We began Two Who somewhere in 2007 in order to play simple, meditative music as a counter-balance for the chaotic life of Boris Morgana. Hermanni played violin and Juuso had a broken mandolin, and we both sang, awkwardly. Then we got into circuit bending and made an awful noise for a while. This all has happened in small private flats of greater Kallio area. Kallio is the home for no future and the spark of resistance in Helsinki. But somehow serenity took over again and we decided that this is just about freeform raga music. Yet you can't really live in a church. So we decided to develop our chops while we trip over each other all the time, and try to work out new shit to decorate our new raga moods. Music is a simple, good thing, and should be played by anyone. July 20, 2009, at 03:31 PM
