Evelyn Grzinich “The Story Begins with a Line, There Is a Story Between the Lines”
Evelyn approaches drawing through performative and installative works. Two-dimensional abstract lines and three-dimensional realistic space become intertwined. This time the work is reminiscent of a forest where something is discernible through the brush.
The artist adds: “When you go through the forest, you meet more drawings. Large, grey, one spot of colour. A mass that has swallowed somebody who has hands. The owner of the hands is a woman or a man, yellow or white, right- or left-sided, rich or poor, mother or daughter, father or son? This is not important. It’s a person. Like the lines have swallowed the person, we are swallowed by our everyday activities. Meaningless (?) or meaningful (?) bustle. Meetings and witherings. Actions and acts. What are these? What is important and what is not? What remains? To whom? Why?”
Evelyn Müürsepp-Grzinich (b 1974) has graduated from the Painting Department of the University of Tartu. She is one of the founders of the artist-run guest studio MoKS and despite her numerous residencies all over the world, she still lives among the hillocks of South-Eastern Estonia.
