Hitoshi Kojo
Hitoshi kojo

Hitoshi Kojo (b. 1969, Japan) has worked in various artistic branches such as music, painting, installation & performance, using both a traditional & contemporary methodologies... Brought up with the influence of ancient asian culture, he recently exposed himself in Europe where most of his activities currently take place, absorbing old myths & customs, & collaborating with other like-minded artists (Michael Northam [under the KODAMA moniker], Yannick Dauby, John Grzinich, Jonathan Coleclough, Maurizio Bianchi, The New Blockaders, etc...). The theme of his projects often drifts from scanning daily matters, trying to catch that elusive spark at the very core of a momentum...

Hitoshi Kojo has managed his own label : OCTPIA, since 2000... Several of his own titles were created under the name "spiracle". His newest publication is released as spiracle's ''ananta' by Belgian publisher 'Mystery Sea' on February. And the next collaboration title with Maurizio Bianchi and Nobu Kasahara 'The Epidemic Symphony No.9' was released on 'Octpia'.

As a result of a more nomadic life recently, performance and the recording in the outdoors has become important for him. Performance with found objects, recording in particular resonant spaces, recording the transition of movements, etc... But rather, the main interest of his work lies more in the dislocation of the recorded result rather than the original document. He carries those recordings to other locations, and plays, performs, records with the sound in the environment. He then makes composition by the poetic combination of all previous recordings.

These recordings moved with him through Japan, Switzerland, France, Belgium and England in the past year. In Estonia, the cycle continues. Those recordings will be played and recorded somewhere, and carried on to next the places.
