A tripartite performance/discussion evening with:
Alice Pamuk (FR), Geoff Robinson (AUS) and Kimmo Modig (FI)
Moderated by John Grzinich
During the month of September MoKS has a unique conjunction of 3 artists who each work with sound, but through very different approaches and media. What happens when we pull together displaced voices and sounds, languages and methods of translation in the context of a specific space? To address this, each artist introduces him/herself with a performative vignette followed by an exchange of questions and responses about each others work. Where this leads us is an open game but further engagement with our ideas and work is welcome.
We begin with Alice, whose practice focuses on questions of translation, transcription and displacement. Her sound installations, drawings, videos and performances interrogate the ways an idea is translated into form, the autonomy of thinking toward language and our fluctuant reliance between musical form and content of speech. Geoff has been focusing on field recording, mapping and creating spatial diagrams in his projects, looking at how specific sites can be represented in three dimensional diagrams to form new juxtapositions of sound and space (http://www.geoffrobinsonprojects.com/). And finally Kimmo uses his voice and his words as a self-reflective mechanism. Through monologues and theatrical performances he weaves non-linear narratives drawn from personal relations and experiences (http://kimmomodig.com/).
